Prof. Dr. Atay Atabey – Curriculum Vitae

Born in 1958 in Ankara, Turkey. He completed his primary and secondary education in Ankara. From 1977 to 1983 he studied medicine at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. After graduation he completed two years of compulsory public service. In 1985 he began specialty training in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. In 1990 he became a "Specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery" at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine, and in 1991 he began working at the same faculty. In 1997 he was awarded the title of "Associate Professor." Between 1994–95 and 1998–2000, he worked for a total of 2.5 years as a "Postdoctoral Research Fellow" in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Maxillofacial Surgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in the United States. There he conducted research on "composite flap prefabrication, craniomaxillofacial surgery, and tissue transfers" and took part in operations performed at Johns Hopkins Hospital. During this time, he also spent 3 months at Dr. Oscar Ramirez's clinic, participating in endoscopic three-dimensional facelifts and other aesthetic surgery procedures. He received a "Postdoctoral Research Diploma" from Johns Hopkins University.
Having served as Chair of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Izmir Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Atabey retired from his faculty position in 2011 after 27 years of service.
Dr. Atabey has more than 50 publications in national and international scientific journals and has given numerous scientific presentations at various congresses and meetings. He has contributed chapters to 4 books. In 2004, Dr. Atabey founded Estetia Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery in Izmir, where he continues to work today. He also works as a part-time faculty member at the Private Tınaztepe Hospital Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Clinic.
He is married and the father of two children.
